Nelson McCracken was elected NAAE Region V Vice President at the 2023 NAAE Convention and will serve a three-year term. With over 30 years of experience as an agricultural education teacher, Nelson has dedicated his career to fostering leadership and professional development in agricultural education. He currently serves as the Director of Development and Leadership at the Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center.
Nelson has been widely recognized for his contributions to agricultural education. In 2016, he was named the Outstanding Agriculture Teacher for Region V, and in 2018, Bagley Middle School earned recognition as the Outstanding Middle/Secondary Agricultural Education Program for Region V. He has also served as the Area 1 Coordinator for the Georgia Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association (GVATA) and is a past State President of GVATA.
In addition to his leadership roles, Nelson represents NAAE on the National FFA Alumni & Supporters Advisory Committee and serves as the NAAE board consultant for the Teacher Recruitment, Retention, and Recognition Committee.
Nelson resides in Crandall, GA, with his wife, Ruby McCracken, who is also an agricultural educator and serves alongside him as the NAAE Region V Secretary. They have two children, Colin and Samantha. In his free time, Nelson enjoys watching sports, traveling, and working outdoors.
