Step 1: Explore the Profession

Colorado loves our agriculture teachers. More than any other discipline, agriculture combines a love of agriculture, food, and natural resources and the art and science of learning. Colorado has diverse and robust programs that need dedicated and creative teachers.

To become a Colorado agricultural educator there are three important places to seek additional information.

A degree in agricultural education in Colorado is experiential and fun. Students pursue coursework across all pathways in agriculture and combine this with opportunities to practice teaching and working with critical industry partners like Colorado Team Ag Ed! We are a close-knit and supportive major that works individually with every student to provide the best training possible.

Students in agricultural education will have the opportunity to gain significant practice at teaching before entering employment through opportunities teaching in Cam's Agriculture Academy, working with diverse students at CSU ARDEC and CSU Spur. Check these programs out to see where you will live and work in agricultural education!

The course of study in agricultural education provides experience and breadth in animal sciences, agricultural mechanics, plant science and horticulture, natural resource management, food products and processing, and agriculture business. Additionally, students take a set of core education classes where they work in the schools each semester.

Through clubs and organizations, students are a part of the college experience, gleaning both professional development and opportunities to serve the broader community.

Step 3: Student Teaching

Students work individually with Agricultural Education faculty to select the best possible placement where students will grow and learn while teaching in the final capstone experience, student teaching! Students spend an entire semester working in a secondary classroom in Colorado and also participate in a professional seminar where pre-service candidates attend and learn at the Colorado Vocational Agriculture Teachers Mid-Winter Conference through district and state-level proficient and state degree evaluations and working in local contexts with FFA opportunities including district leadership conferences and CDE and LDE opportunities. Students also develop a final portfolio and work on interviewing for the perfect position in Colorado. Students will see a variety of diverse programs in their final semester.
